Stillwater is Oklahoma's classic college town: orange on game days, quiet in summer, and shaped by Oklahoma State University at almost every turn. It has more personality than its size suggests, partly because the campus, downtown, and old restaurant-and-music haunts sit close enough to feel connected.
The city is best known to outsiders for OSU athletics, Eskimo Joe's, and the original Hideaway Pizza. Look a little longer and you find a solid small downtown, university museums, and lakes and prairie edges that make good half-day breaks.
Stillwater is not a place for grand monuments. Come for campus energy, red-dirt music history, a relaxed weekend, or a stop between Tulsa and north-central Oklahoma.
