The Philtower Building, completed in 1928, is the most ornate of Tulsa's Art Deco skyscrapers. Its 24-story terra-cotta and brick exterior mixes Gothic spires with Art Deco ornamentation in a way that was fashionable in the late 1920s. The lobby is especially worth a look: bronze elevator doors, marble floors, and decorative ironwork that showcase the craftsmanship that oil money could buy.
The adjacent Philcade Building (1930) is more restrained but has a magnificent arched lobby passage running through the block. Together they form an architectural set piece at the heart of downtown. Both buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places. Walking the two-block stretch of S. Boston Avenue from the Philtower south to the Tulsa Club Building gives you the best concentrated sample of Tulsa's Art Deco architecture.
