BridgePort Brewing

BridgePort Brewing Company in the Pearl District is Oregon's oldest craft brewery, founded in 1984 in a converted industrial building. The brewpub serves a rotating lineup of ales that includes the flagship IPA, seasonal releases, and experimental small-batch beers. The interior is spacious, the exposed brick and timber give it genuine character, and the pizza kitchen is a reliable kitchen-to-match.

The Pearl District location means it sits within walking distance of Powell's Books and the Saturday Market area. The large outdoor seating area is popular in summer. BridgePort was instrumental in establishing Portland's craft beer identity — along with Widmer Brothers (founded the same year), it helped make Portland what it became: the most brewery-dense city in the United States.

A story
BridgePort was founded in 1984 as Columbia River Brewery and was the first craft brewery in Oregon. It set up in a converted warehouse in what was then an unfashionable industrial district on the edge of downtown — the same district that would later become the Pearl District. The building's original use as a rope-making factory is recalled in its local nickname; the interior exposed brick and timber bones are still visible.
