McLeod Plantation Historic Site

A Charleston-area plantation historic site interpreting slavery, Gullah Geechee heritage, and sea-island agriculture.

McLeod Plantation Historic Site is one of the Charleston area's most important plantation visits because its interpretation centers enslaved people, their descendants, and the Gullah Geechee cultural landscape rather than only the owner's house. Preserved cabins, live oaks, fields, and riverside land make the history physically legible.

It is a serious, necessary counterweight to the city's more decorative historic-house circuit. Give it time and approach it as a place of memory and interpretation, not just architecture.
