King Street is Charleston's main shopping strip, running north from the historic district through a mix of high-end boutiques, antique stores and (further up) design shops. Charleston City Market is the place for sweetgrass baskets woven by Gullah artisans — a genuine American craft with deep African roots — as well as souvenir tea towels and Lowcountry preserves. For antiques, the stretch of King Street between Broad and Market is particularly strong.
