Falls Park on the Reedy

A 32-acre riverside park built around the Reedy River Falls, right at the edge of downtown. The falls drop 25 feet through a rocky gorge that was buried under a highway overpass for four decades — when the elevated road came down in 2004, the park was created and the cascade was revealed to the city again. Shaded trails wind along both banks of the river, and the park is popular with locals for morning runs, lunch breaks, and weekend strolls.

story: > The falls were the reason Greenville existed at all — early settlers built mills here in the 1820s, using the waterfall to power machinery. By the mid-20th century, a highway had been built directly over them and most residents had forgotten they were there. The 2004 demolition of the flyover was the spark that ignited the downtown revival.
