Park City is a former silver-mining town turned ski resort about 30 miles east of Salt Lake City. It hosts two major ski areas — Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley — and was a main venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics. In January it becomes the centre of the independent film world when the Sundance Film Festival takes over the town.
The historic Main Street, lined with 19th-century mining-era buildings, now houses restaurants, galleries, and shops, including High West Distillery — the first whiskey distillery to open in Utah since Prohibition. The Utah Olympic Park, a few miles north of town, still hosts elite training and offers thrill rides on the bobsled track. In summer the mountains switch to hiking and mountain biking, with over 400 miles of trails in the surrounding area. The town has a notably good food scene for its size, fuelled by Sundance culture and the ski crowd.
