The Canyon Overlook is the easiest dramatic view in the park: a one-mile round-trip on a clear, mostly level trail that ends on a sandstone shelf looking back into the upper end of Zion Canyon, with Pine Creek Canyon dropping away beneath your feet. It is reached from the east side of the Mount Carmel Tunnel — drive your own car (this section is outside the shuttle area) and park at the small lot.
The trail involves a few steps and a single short section of exposed ledge with a handrail; even small children manage it. Allow an hour. Sunset is the show: the great red wall of the East Temple turns to molten copper, and the dropping light catches every fin and gulley of the canyon below.
