Pies & Pints started in nearby Fayetteville in 2003 as a pizza-and-beer joint for the New River Gorge climbing crowd; it has since grown into a regional chain, but its Charleston outlet on Capitol Street stays true to the original formula. Wood-fired thin-crust pizzas with imaginative toppings — grape-and-gorgonzola is the signature — paired with a long list of craft beers, many of them West Virginia brews.
The brick-and-wood interior fills up on weekend evenings. A good no-reservation option for an early dinner before a show at the Clay Center or the Municipal Auditorium.
