Downtown Charleston is compact and easily walkable. Parking is rarely a problem and largely free or cheap. The city operates a public bus system (KRT — Kanawha Valley Regional Transportation Authority) covering the metro area, though service is infrequent and a car is more practical for anything outside the core. The Capitol Complex, East End, and downtown are all within comfortable walking distance of each other.
