A purpose-built museum next to the Frontier Days rodeo arena, dedicated to the cultural history of the American West and to the rodeo itself. The collection runs to more than 55,000 objects: over 100 horse-drawn carriages and wagons, Western and folk art, costumes, photographs, and saddles. The carriage hall in particular — Concord stages, mud wagons, two surviving original Cheyenne-Black Hills stages — is one of the best in the country.
A Hall of Fame on the upper level honours stock contractors, rodeo champions, and Frontier Days volunteers. The kids' room has interactive exhibits and the gift shop is heavy on serious Western art and books rather than tourist tat. Open daily; small entry fee. Best combined with a walk around the empty rodeo grounds outside.
