Wyoming State Museum

Wyoming's official state museum is a free, public history museum across the street from the Capitol. Founded in 1895 in a single Capitol basement room and now housed in the Barrett Building, it covers the natural and human history of the state across five permanent galleries — geology and dinosaurs, Indigenous Wyoming, the Oregon Trail, the cattle industry, and 20th-century life.

The dinosaur gallery has good mounted skeletons from the Morrison Formation and the Hell Creek beds. The "Wyoming Women" exhibit makes a serious case for Wyoming's claim as the cradle of women's suffrage. Free admission; closed Sundays. Allow 90 minutes.
