Wildlife watching is the reason to come to Iberá, and the range of experiences here is exceptional. Boat tours on Laguna Iberá are the most accessible activity, delivering close encounters with capybara, caimans, and an outstanding variety of waterbirds. The birdwatching is world-class, with over 360 species including the globally vulnerable strange-tailed tyrant. Horseback riding opens up the savannah and wetland edges that boats cannot reach.
The big-ticket experiences are the rewilded megafauna. Giant anteaters are now regularly seen on vehicle tours, while jaguar tracking offers the possibility — not guarantee — of seeing the most powerful predator in the Americas, reintroduced after a 70-year absence. The base for most visitors is Colonia Carlos Pellegrini, the small village on the lagoon shore within the Iberá National Park protected area.
