A small municipal museum in the former 18th-century Câmara e Cadeia (town hall and jail) on the historic bluff. The collection is modest but worth thirty minutes: pre-colonial artefacts from the Pataxó indigenous people, religious objects from the early churches, period photographs of the town in the early 20th century, and exhibits on the 1500 Portuguese landing.
The building itself is part of the attraction — thick whitewashed walls, original cell doors and grates still in place at the back, and a wide veranda with a sea view. Entry is free or nominal. Hours are inconsistent; the museum is usually open in the morning and closed for a long lunch.
