The town beach of Porto Seguro itself, a strip of sand running from the river mouth north along the waterfront just below the historic bluff. It is not the best beach in the area — the water is murkier here because of the river discharge, and the sand is narrower than at the northern beaches — but it is the most convenient, reached on foot from the centre.
The promenade behind the beach is good for an early walk before the heat. A line of simple bars sells fresh coconut water and beer. The fishing boats moored offshore and the ferry crossing to Arraial give the view some interest. Use this beach for a quick swim or a sunset drink; for a beach day, go north.
