A 700-hectare Atlantic Forest reserve managed by the Pataxó indigenous community, about ten kilometres inland from Porto Seguro. Guided visits introduce traditional plant use, archery, body painting with jenipapo and urucum, and the Pataxó language; a meal of fish or chicken cooked in banana leaves and beiju (cassava flatbread) is part of the standard tour.
The visit lasts most of half a day and is run entirely by the community — visitor fees go directly to the reserve. It is one of the better organised indigenous cultural tourism experiences in Brazil and gives a sense of the people whose ancestors met Cabral's fleet here in 1500. Book through a Porto Seguro travel agency or directly with the reserve; transport is usually included.
