A Manaus institution since the 1970s, Canto da Peixada specialises in the regional river fish — tambaqui, pirarucu, jaraqui — usually grilled whole over wood, with sides of pirão (manioc gravy) and farofa. The atmosphere is the usual Brazilian peixaria: tile floors, plastic chairs, families at large tables, beer in cold towers.
The portions are designed for sharing, two people per fish minimum. The pirarucu na chapa, slices of the giant Amazonian fish browned on a hot iron, is the signature dish. A few blocks from the Praça 14 in the central-south of the city.
