Viaduto do Chá

Historic central bridge linking São Paulo's old and new downtown.

Viaduto do Chá is one of central São Paulo's classic urban viewpoints, carrying pedestrians and traffic between Rua Barão de Itapetininga and Rua Direita. The bridge marks the shift from the older core around Sé toward the grander downtown of theatres, offices, and early modern high-rises.

It is worth crossing on foot for the cityscape: the Theatro Municipal on one side, the Anhangabaú valley below, and a dense slice of São Paulo history all around.
