Japan Square honours Curitiba's Japanese community, with cherry trees, small Japanese-style lakes, and a portal, culture house, and tea house added in the early 1990s. It is a compact cultural stop rather than a major park, but the landscaping and symbolism make it more distinctive than a routine city square.
It is easiest to visit while passing through Batel. In cherry blossom season the square is at its best; at other times it is a short, pleasant detour.
