Floripa has a strong nightlife reputation, especially in summer when Argentine and Brazilian visitors flood the island from December to March. The Lagoa da Conceição area is the main hub, with everything from chilled waterfront bars to late-night clubs packed into a small area. The city centre has a lively after-work scene, and the Mercado Público — the historic covered market — transforms into a cluster of bars from late afternoon. Beach bars operate along the east coast during the summer season; they wind down sharply when winter arrives.
