Eating Out

Seafood is the reason to eat well in Florianópolis. Santa Catarina state is Brazil's leading oyster producer, and the island's oyster restaurants — especially those in Santo António de Lisboa — serve them straight from local farms. Fish, shrimp, and moqueca (a rich, coconut-milk fish stew) appear on menus across the island, from beachside kiosks to upscale restaurants around the Lagoa da Conceição. The food scene has grown with the city's tech and tourism boom; there's now a solid range of international cooking alongside the traditional Brazilian and Portuguese-influenced menus.
