Getting There

By air: Hercílio Luz International Airport (FLN) is in the south of the island. Direct flights connect Florianópolis to São Paulo (about 1 hour), Rio de Janeiro (about 1.5 hours), and Buenos Aires (about 2.5 hours). Most major Brazilian carriers serve the route from São Paulo and Rio. International connections are mostly via Buenos Aires or São Paulo.

By bus: The Rita Maria bus terminal handles long-distance coaches. Buses run from Porto Alegre (roughly 5 hours), São Paulo (around 12 hours), and Curitiba (around 5 hours). International coaches run to Buenos Aires and Montevideo, popular with Argentine visitors making the overland journey.

By road: Florianópolis is on the BR-101 coastal highway, about 700 km south of São Paulo and 475 km north of Porto Alegre. Driving is straightforward but distances are long; the city is connected to the mainland via two bridges.
