Donde Augusto is a straightforward seafood restaurant that has been operating in Viña del Mar for decades and has the clientele to show for it — locals, visiting Chileans, and the occasional tourist who has found their way to the right kind of place by accident or good advice. The menu is built around whatever came off the boats: congrio frito, ceviche, chupe de mariscos (a thick shellfish stew), and plates of mixed shellfish to share.
The room is unpretentious and the service is efficient. Order the chupe if it is on the day's menu — it is the dish that most clearly demonstrates what Chilean coastal cooking can do when it is not trying to impress anyone. Prices are reasonable by resort standards. No reservations; arrive early or be prepared to wait at peak times.
