Mercado Los Comuneros

The best place in Bucaramanga to eat the way locals eat. This covered market in the city centre has dozens of puestos selling hormigas culonas (roasted leafcutter ants, crunchy and faintly smoky), chicharrón, empanadas, and jugos de fruta prepared to order. The ant vendors are concentrated near the main entrance and sell them by the bag — plain, salted, or with chilli. Come mid-morning when the market is in full swing and stalls are still fresh. It doubles as a cheap lunch spot for office workers in the surrounding blocks.
