Santa Rosa de Cabal is a small city in Risaralda department, in Colombia's coffee-growing region about 15 kilometres from Pereira. It sits at around 1,700 metres in the Andes, with a mild climate and a traditional market-town character.
The town is best known for its hot springs, located about 9 kilometres outside the city in a narrow mountain valley. The springs draw visitors from across the region on weekends; during the week they are much quieter. The setting is dramatic — you soak in thermal pools while surrounded by steep forested hillsides. The infrastructure is functional rather than luxurious, with a large resort hotel at the road's end that better suits groups than couples. The springs themselves are the attraction; don't expect the resort to match them.
Santa Rosa is a good base for exploring the coffee zone, and day trips to the Nevado de Santa Rosa (one of the Nevados del Ruiz group) are possible for those with mountain experience.
