Iglesia de San Ignacio

Iglesia de San Ignacio is one of Tunja's colonial churches, completed in 1620 in Jesuit style. Its most noted feature is a polychrome statue of Jesus, and the building also has a cultural role as a venue for the International Festival of Culture.

It is best visited as part of a slow walk through Tunja's old centre, where churches, convents, and colonial houses sit close together. Santo Domingo is the showstopper, but San Ignacio adds another strand to the city's unusually dense religious architecture.
