The Monasterio de San Agustin is one of Tunja's strongest colonial buildings, a former Augustinian convent beside Parque Pinzon in the old centre. Its thick walls and cloister have carried several lives: monastery, school, university, prison, and now cultural space and archive.
For travellers, it is a useful counterweight to Tunja's churches and plazas. The building shows how colonial institutions were reused rather than simply preserved, and its quiet courtyards give a good pause during a walk through the historic centre.
