Sinnamary Waterfront

The mouth of the Sinnamary River where it meets the coast is the social and geographic centre of the town. The wooden houses and small market nearby make for an easy afternoon walk. Pelicans, frigatebirds, and various terns work the river mouth; the late afternoon is the best time for watching them. The beach at the river mouth is not suitable for swimming — the currents are strong and the water murky with river sediment — but the setting at sunset is beautiful.

Boatmen gather here in the mornings to arrange river trips. It is also where the local fishing boats come in with their catch in the afternoon, which attracts both buyers and birds in roughly equal numbers.
