The main reason to stop in Sinnamary is the Sinnamary River and the pirogue trips it enables. Upriver lie several dramatic rapids — Saut Caouanne, Saut Tigre, Takari, and the most remote, Saut Lucifer — accessible only by boat through dense rainforest. Grégoire Creek is a shorter alternative for a half-day excursion. Local boatmen can be found at the riverside.
The town itself, with its low wooden houses painted in bright Creole colours, is pleasant to walk on an afternoon — a quiet alternative to the space-industry bustle of Kourou, its more famous neighbour.
