Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium

Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium is the main sports venue in Yaoundé, a multi-purpose stadium with a capacity of around 38,000. It hosts national football matches, athletics competitions, and occasionally concerts. The stadium was one of the venues for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (held in early 2022 due to the pandemic), and seeing a football match here when the national team is playing is one of the more vivid experiences available in the city.

Tickets for international matches can be obtained at the stadium box office or from touts outside. The atmosphere during a Lions match against a regional rival is something that requires minimal interest in football to appreciate — the crowd noise alone is worth the trip.

A story
Named after Cameroon's first president, the stadium hosted matches during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations — one of the few times African football came to the capital rather than to Douala. Cameroon's Indomitable Lions reaching the semi-finals as hosts produced some of the most charged atmospheres the stadium has seen since its construction in the 1970s.
