Notre-Dame des Victoires Cathedral

Notre-Dame des Victoires is the main Catholic cathedral of Yaoundé, a large white structure in the city centre that serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Yaoundé. The building is a visible landmark and one of the most important Catholic churches in Central Africa — Cameroon is a majority-Christian country and the cathedral is the centre of Catholic religious life in the capital.

The interior is spacious and regularly full during Sunday mass, when the choir and congregation fill the space with a musical intensity that rewards a visit even for non-believers. The surrounding quarter, known as the Plateau district, has some of the city's oldest colonial-era buildings and is pleasant to walk around.
