Cairo's most famous ahwa (traditional café), tucked into the alleyways of Khan al-Khalili and open around the clock. The cramped interior is lined with mirrors and hung with chandeliers; smoke from a dozen shishas drifts through. Order strong Turkish coffee or mint tea, settle in, and watch the souk flow past. It has been running continuously since 1773.
