Maadi Corniche

Riverside promenade along the Nile through Maadi, quieter and greener than central Cairo

The Maadi corniche runs for several kilometres along the Nile's east bank in the southern suburbs, with a proper paved walkway, benches, and views across the river to palm-fringed islands. It's considerably quieter than the downtown corniche and much less commercial — mostly used by Maadi residents for jogging and evening walks rather than tourist boat touts. In the early morning it's one of the most pleasant walks in Cairo.

Several small marinas along the corniche are used by Cairo's sailboat community, and felucca rides can be arranged from here for lower prices than downtown. The stretch near Road 9 has cafés and snack stalls. The corniche connects south to the Maadi Yacht Club and north towards the Nilometer on Rhoda Island.
