Heavenly Cathedral

Coptic Orthodox cathedral in Hay el-Noor known for its vivid floor-to-ceiling frescoes

The Heavenly Cathedral, also known locally as El-Samaeyeen Cathedral, is Sharm el-Sheikh's most striking church interior. From the outside it looks like a clean, modern Coptic cathedral; inside, almost every surface is covered with bright biblical frescoes, gilding, and painted vaults.

It is a useful counterpoint to the resort strip: a reminder that Sharm is not only beaches, dive boats, and malls. Dress modestly, keep your voice down, and avoid visiting during services unless you intend to worship. A short taxi ride from Naama Bay or the Old Market is enough.
