A compound of workshops, stages, and the Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Centre for National Culture is the one-stop introduction to Ashanti craft and performance. Wood carvers, brass casters, and kente weavers work in open sheds and will happily explain the symbolism of their pieces before quoting you a price. Prices are negotiable and generally above Bonwire, but the selection is wider.

The grounds also include the Okomfo Anokye library and an open-air auditorium where drumming and dance performances are staged on weekends — ask at the entrance for the week's schedule. Allow at least an hour, longer if you want to bargain seriously.
