Bomas of Kenya

Traditional villages and dance performances from 42 ethnic groups

Bomas of Kenya is a cultural centre in Langata that recreates traditional homesteads (bomas) of Kenya's major ethnic communities. The complex includes reconstructed villages representing the Kikuyu, Maasai, Luo, Kamba, Samburu, and other groups, each with appropriate architecture, furnishings, and explanatory material.

The main draw is the afternoon cultural performance in an amphitheatre — traditional dances, drumming, and acrobatics from Kenya's 42 recognised ethnic communities. The shows are scheduled for weekend afternoons and some weekday afternoons; check current times before visiting. The performances are energetic and well-staged, aimed at giving visitors a broad overview of the country's cultural diversity in one session.

The site is on Langata Road, close to Nairobi National Park, and can be combined with a morning park visit. It is about 10 km from the city centre.
