Swara Plains Conservancy is a useful wildlife day trip southeast of Nairobi, especially if you want open savannah without committing to a longer national-park journey. The conservancy protects acacia plains and grassland with giraffe, zebra, antelope, and abundant birdlife.
It is not a substitute for the Mara, Amboseli, or even Nairobi National Park, but it has a gentler rhythm and fewer vehicles. The appeal is a relaxed day outside the city: game drives, walking or cycling where permitted, and the simple pleasure of watching plains animals with the skyline and traffic left behind.
