Nakuru is a regional trading centre, and the streets around the Nakumatt Westside and the old market are crowded with dukas selling everything from Kenyan tea and coffee to baskets, beads, and wooden carvings. Look for kiondos (handwoven sisal bags), soapstone carvings from nearby Kisii, and Maasai jewellery; the area's furniture-makers also sell solid hardwood pieces, though they're hard to ship. Gilani's Supermarket on Club Road, opposite the Rift Valley Sports Club, is a useful one-stop for groceries and supplies before heading into the parks.
