Lemurs' Park sits 22 kilometres west of Antananarivo along the road to Itasy, making it the most accessible place near the capital to walk freely among lemurs. Eight species roam through a forested riverside enclosure of several hectares, including ring-tailed lemurs, black-and-white ruffed lemurs, and the shy bamboo lemur. Unlike zoo visits, the animals here move through the trees above you and occasionally descend to investigate — the encounters feel genuinely wild even within a managed setting.
The park also maintains a botanical section with labelled endemic plants and a small reptile collection. It is a private operation run by conservation-minded owners who speak French and English and are candid about the challenges of wildlife protection in Madagascar. The half-day trip from Tana works well as a standalone excursion or combined with a visit to the nearby Ivato area. A taxi-brousse or private taxi from the city centre takes around 45 minutes depending on traffic.
