Tucked inside the grounds of the General Directorate of Mines and Geology in Ampandrianomby, this museum holds a serious collection of over 27,000 specimens — ores, minerals, silicified fossils, and timber samples gathered from across Madagascar and beyond.
Knowledgeable guides walk you through the exhibits, including detailed geological maps of the island (one in relief) that illustrate how extraordinarily rich the country's underground resources are. The tour was developed with assistance from the International Council of Museums. There's a small souvenir shop selling postcards, gemstones, and mineralogical collections.
