The Prime Minister's Palace, or Andafiavaratra Palace, stands near the Rova on Antananarivo's historic upper ridge. Built for Rainilaiarivony, the powerful 19th-century prime minister, it helps explain how royal authority, court politics, and European-influenced architecture intertwined in the Merina capital.
Inside, the museum context is especially useful because so much of the nearby Rova was damaged by fire. Treat the palace and the royal hill as one visit: the building, the views, and the story of Madagascar's last monarchy make far more sense together than separately.
