Photography Museum

A small private museum tucked into an old colonial house on Rue du Vieux Conseil, near Place d'Armes. The collection covers the history of photography on the island from the 1840s — daguerreotypes, glass plates, vintage cameras, and a particularly good archive of street and portrait photography from the late colonial period.

The museum is the labour of love of photographer Tristan Bréville and his family. It's not on most itineraries and the displays are intimate rather than slick, but if you have any interest in photography or in the social history of the island it is a rewarding 45 minutes. Entry around Rs 250.
