Kasbah Tifoultoute

Restored Glaoui kasbah on a rocky promontory with panoramic views

Address Route de Marrakech, 10km northwest of Ouarzazate

Kasbah Tifoultoute sits on a rocky spur 10 km northwest of Ouarzazate, commanding views over a wide bend of the Oued Imaoun. Like Kasbah Taourirt in town, it was a Glaoui residence, and its towers and battlements are classic examples of southern Moroccan earthen architecture. Lawrence of Arabia used the kasbah as a set in 1962, and it has been visited by film crews many times since. It is now partly converted into a restaurant and guesthouse, which makes it easy to visit on the way to or from Ait Benhaddou. The promontory itself is worth the stop for the views across the pre-Saharan plain.
