The Noor Ouarzazate Solar Complex is not a conventional tourist sight, but it is hard to ignore: a huge field of mirrors and towers rising from the desert outside Ouarzazate. Morocco built the complex as a flagship renewable-energy project, and from the road it looks almost futuristic against the dry hills.
Most travellers see it from outside rather than touring the plant. That is still worthwhile if you have a car or bicycle and an interest in engineering, photography, or the way southern Morocco is being reshaped by infrastructure as much as by film studios and kasbahs.
