Things to Do in Taza

Taza's sights are concentrated in Taza-Haut, the old medina on the rocky spur above the Ville Nouvelle. The most rewarding approach is to walk the medina walls circuit, which takes in the main viewpoints — Bab Er Rih, Bab Zitouna, and Tour Es-Sarragine — while giving a sense of the fortifications that made Taza strategically important for centuries.

The Grande Mosquée at the heart of the medina is the most important historic building in Taza — one of the oldest Almohad mosques in Morocco, founded in 1135 — though it is not accessible to non-Muslims. The medina lanes around it, including the souk area and the artisan quarter, are worth exploring.

Outside the city, the Friouato Caves and Djebel Tazzeka National Park about 20–30 kilometres south provide the main day-trip options.
