École des Métiers d'Arts Traditionnels

Directly opposite Bab el-Okla, the craft school trains young Tetouanis in the traditional Andalusian-Moroccan crafts — tile mosaic (zellij), woodcarving, plaster sculpture (gebs), brass inlay, and silk embroidery. Visitors can walk through the workshops on most weekdays and watch students at work. The building, a sprawling pink-and-white colonial-era structure, is itself worth seeing.

There is no obligation to buy, but the school shop at the entrance sells student pieces at fair prices and is a much more honest place to pick up tilework than the souk. Allow an hour.
