Tetouan's beach town, eight kilometres east on the Mediterranean. Martil is busy and a little tatty in high summer, when Moroccan families decamp here from inland cities, but the long flat sand, warm shallow water, and seafront promenade with grilled-fish restaurants make for a pleasant afternoon escape.
A grand taxi from central Tetouan takes fifteen minutes and costs almost nothing. Out of season (October to May), Martil is mostly empty and the seafront cafes are at their best.
