Massingir

Mozambican reservoir town beside Massingir Dam, with access to Parque Nacional do Limpopo.

Massingir is a small town in Gaza Province, Mozambique, best known as the gateway to the Parque Nacional do Limpopo. The park forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, linking with South Africa's Kruger and Zimbabwe's Gonarezhou.

The Massingir Dam on the Rio dos Elefantes is the landmark here — the reservoir attracts birdlife and the surrounding bush is home to elephant, buffalo, and antelope. Tourism infrastructure is still developing, but the Covane Community Lodge and a park campsite provide accommodation. The area is most accessible in the dry season (May to October).
