Tarkwa Bay is a small, sheltered beach inside Lagos Harbour on the leeward side of the breakwater — calm water, no surf, and a different city skyline behind you (cargo cranes and oil tankers rather than skyscrapers). The only way to get there is by boat: small flying boats leave from the jetty at Mekwen on Victoria Island and from Walter Carrington Crescent throughout the day, about 15–20 minutes each way. Once on the beach there are warungs, deck chairs to rent, the occasional jet-ski, and a small fishing community on the inland side. The classic Lagos weekend escape.
