Eating Out

Lagos eats well at every price point. Nigerian classics — jollof rice, egusi soup with pounded yam, ofada with ayamase sauce, suya, goat-meat pepper soup — are everywhere from street-side joints to restaurant menus. Victoria Island and Ikoyi hold the fancier restaurants (Yellow Chilli, Nkoyo, Terra Kulture, the Bukka Hut chains); Lagos Island holds the cheap canteens (Ghana High, Sweet Sensation) where office workers eat lunch. The roadside suya — beef or chicken grilled over wood and dusted with yaji spice — is the city's late-night signature; the best vendors are around Glover Court and on Awolowo Road in Ikoyi.
